    Steps 4-6

    Steps 4-6

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Admitted to God/Higher Power, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

We’re entirely ready to have God/Higher Power remove all these defects of character.

Now these are the steps in which everyone indicates are the “major ones”. Everyone says to focus on these as they are the harder ones to deal with and in fact will take the most time to get through. When working on this it is important to work with someone that you trust and can share your darkest secrets. We all have them and at times we are not aware of some as we put them far away. Far enough away where we don’t see it ourselves. However when it does appear and it will, make it a point to look at why you hid it away in the first place. If it is something detrimental to yourself or others as you go through this process it is your duty to seek professional help to assist in this matter. You could not detangle this web alone the first time around so what makes you think this can be done alone the second time. We all need help at some point in our lives never be afraid to ask for the help if needed.

So when getting through the web we have vastly created for ourselves we take an honest inventory of what we have done to ourselves and others. The wreckage we have made, what we left behind, and why we ran from it all in the first place. We make it a point to finally come clean with our Higher Power and most importantly ourselves and what we have done. If appropriate we make amends to those we have wronged. It is important to remember there will be times where this cannot be done because it would be more harmful to those around us and even to ourselves if we made contact to make amends. There are always other ways to get through this process without contacting those we harmed and this will have to be discussed with your sponsor or therapist when you begin.

Remember you will be on a continuous journey of change. You will feel many emotions which are foreign as this was never part of the plan in the past. It is okay though because it is just part of the process as with anything else as we development and change. Take your time and learn to finally see things for what they are. Make it a point to understand the world around you as there is so much you may be missing.
