    Steps 10-12

    Here are steps 10-12:

Continued to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God/Higher Power as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics/addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

People seem to believe once you hit these steps you are on the home stretch. You have mastered your addictive behaviors and you are well on your way to mental wellness. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth and in fact you will find the more you learn about yourself the more you realize you have so much more to go. It becomes very apparent there was so much hidden you are just starting to learn about yourself and many people end up going back through the steps to rediscover themselves.

    It is always interesting...

    Steps 7-9

    Here are steps 7-9:

Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

The infamous 7-9 steps! Well these are the steps you hear on television and comedy shows all the time referencing the importance of taking care of your business. In fact there was a sitcom several years ago based around these steps where he made a list of all the people he ever wronged in his life and the entire show was based with him going around and trying to make amends. Obviously, it did not go well many times and he was perplexed as to why he couldn’t work things out and make things right.

Well getting back to the REAL world these steps work very closely with the previous steps. Looking at our demons we begin to realize how much damage we created not only to ourselves but those around us. So once we get through taking a mo...

    Steps 4-6

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Admitted to God/Higher Power, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

We’re entirely ready to have God/Higher Power remove all these defects of character.

Now these are the steps in which everyone indicates are the “major ones”. Everyone says to focus on these as they are the harder ones to deal with and in fact will take the most time to get through. When working on this it is important to work with someone that you trust and can share your darkest secrets. We all have them and at times we are not aware of some as we put them far away. Far enough away where we don’t see it ourselves. However when it does appear and it will, make it a point to look at why you hid it away in the first place. If it is something detrimental to yourself or others as you go through this process it is your duty to seek professional help to assist in this matter. You could not detangle this web alone the first t...
